I was contacted by a reader from Melbourne back in February about some SyQuest cartridges (88Mb and a 200Mb) which had been left sitting for a while, from which they wanted the data recovered from.

I’ve tried my best to redact sections of these screenshots non-essential to the story. It is with special thanks to the reader who has granted special permission for me to use limited low-resolution screenshots of the contents to help illustrate the article. Each and every recovery project is a little different, so read on to find out what difficulties were encountered and workarounds used. It touches on my voluntary SyQuest data recovery offer, which was bought to a halt after the drive was damaged. The difference is that this part didn’t really have anything to do with my trip to Melbourne at the beginning, and started long before I even had any idea I was going to Melbourne. At last, the promised final special part of my Melbourne trip has arrived.
